We make each gauge of wound and some plain
strings in several degrees of stiffness or "tension".
For instance, an .026 can be loose,
somewhat stiff, more stiff, or very stiff.
We use the following letters to indicate the
degree of stiffness, or how flexible the string feels when
playing it:
.026R + rubber band like (for touch instruments)
.026 = flexible
.026H = indicated "Heavy" and is a bit less flexible
.026S = indicates "super core" and is stiff
.026U = ultra core and is very stiff
Round core wound strings
available!
The actual "pull tension" or LBF on the
strings tuned to pitch varies slightly. The amount of
flexibility is determined
by moving the string from side to side while
it is tuned to pitch. If you want your string(s) to feel
like a "Cheese Slicer" wire,
you would select "U"/ Ultra Core.
All strings can be
made with full wrap, tapered core, exposed core,
skeleton core, or any combination of the above. You
can order sets made with your choice color of thread
wrap. Black, Red, Royal Blue, Burgundy, Jade Green,
Light Blue, Purple etc.

Guitar
scale 23" - 29" bass strings coming soon.
Bass scale 30" - 43"
( Note: You will need to contact us by email before
ordering so we can review specs to
custom make the
string for your bass)
Bass strings
for octave 1, octave 2 and octave 3 coming soon.
By request we
will be making string sets for 4 - 11 string basses.
Single roundwound strings and sets are available
in stainless steel, pure nickel, alloy and
phosphor/bronze.
The nickel plated steel will be available soon.
Strings can be designed using a number of different
string formulas. As an example, we can make a .175 with
different core sizes, tensile strength, and wrap wire
combinations so the string feels extremely tight or
loose, like a rubber band. They can sound transparent or
deep, dark and full. If you need to know the amount of
pull force on each string, we can provide a real time
digital readout for a nominal fee.
We make custom handmade strings and sets. We are
the first to offer octave zero strings for the
28.625"-30"
scale with bass and guitar ball ends. So B0, the
same low B on a 5-string bass is available for
guitars like the Agile Intrepid Pro, Halo
10-string and Oakland Axe Factory ERGs. We make
standard bass guitar E1 for the 25.5" scale
guitar.
We check each wound string for timbre and
sustain while it is still on the winder. We
confirm that the string
sounds great before we send it to you. We can
provide you with a recording of the sound of the
open string you've purchased for a nominal fee.
This audio example is of an .070 nickel
plated steel guitar bass string plucked while
still on the string winder :
We
wind F#0 strings in gauges ranging from .160
to .206. We also make C#0 strings ranging
from .184 to .230. When ordering a string,
such as a .206 for example, please indicate
the intended tuning for the string. This
will help us determine which type of .206 to
wind for you.
The
F#0 .206 will be "floppy" if tuned down to
C#0.
Finally, a "punchy" low C# string that doesn't flop the
fretboard!
If you listen
through a pair of good headphones or speakers, you will
be able to clearly identify the .216 tuned to C#0,
followed by G#0 played on the .140 string, and then C#1
played on a .110 string. This is not a performance. We
suggest listening to this short clip several times or
looping it. The OctaveZero strings have tonal
consistency and sound like they belong to the rest of
the string set. They do not sound like a "thud" with a
timbre that is not consistent with the rest of the
string set. This recording was made by plugging the bass
directly into a CD burner, proving that one does not
need a giant speaker cabinet to reproduce audible, pitch
specific sub contra ( octave zero) and super sub contra
( octave double zero) notes. These strings are playable,
and "pitch discernible" above the 12th fret.
Audio file
description: This is a
sequence of notes recorded all on the same bass. First
you will hear G#1 played at the 4th fret, E1, bass
guitar low E string at the 34" scale. Next you will hear
the same G#1, but at the 24th fret on the .262 G#00
string. Following this you will hear G#0 at the 12th
fret on the G#00 string, and finally the open G#00. The
bridge saddle was not adjusted for the .262, so the
intonation is not perfect.
.265 steel round wound bass string $46.00
.270 steel round wound bass string $51.00
HloGb124 30"
scale $8.00
Skeleton Core ( per string)
$ 3.00
These strings are made
with the Octave4Plus™ bass ball ends (patent
pending ).
The core is not
twisted around the ball end to attach it to the
string, allowing
for a thicker core and
eliminating the 5/8" twist next to the ball end.
